This programme introduces my background and explains why I created a new YouTube channel, “The Climate Emergency and Spiritual values”.
I explain that I am not an “expert” on Climate Change, but speak from the viewpoint of a concerned citizen and as a green activist for 40 years.
My main aim of the channel is to educate people about climate change so that they can make informed choices
Unlike other channels on the climate emergency, I go deeper into the causes of climate change by analysing the values that drive it. I put forward the idea that the deeper cause of climate change is essentially spiritual in nature.
The programme starts off with simply defining what Climate Change actually is.
Then, there is a simple explanation of the causes of climate change by referring to a very good graphic image and later a simple educational video.
Having identified the greenhouse gases as the drivers of climate change there is a then easy to follow explanation of the sources.
It is made clear that the growing numbers of people and their increasing consumption of resources increases emissions of greenhouse gases.
So, sources of greenhouse gases are identified as occurring when we produce energy from fossil fuels, manufacture goods, travel by carbon intensive transport, farm using fossil fuels and use domestic energy.
It then goes on to explain that we are creating an imbalance of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere by producing too much of it for nature to deal with. It then identifies the main countries that contribute the most carbon dioxide.
The programme introduces the idea that the values we hold guide everything we do including our contribution to the climate emergency.
I explain my reasoning that the best values are those that are from spiritual traditions.
I then talk about Greed and Materialism as drivers of consumption and therefore creating more greenhouse gases and thereby fuelling climate change.
I explain that most spiritual teachings warn that accumulating material wealth is a distraction and barrier to getting closer to God or some sort of realization.
I then quote from different spiritual traditions teachings about greed and materialism starting with Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Taoism, Shamanism and Baha’is.
I then conclude the programme with the idea that greed and materialism is the major contributor to the Climate Emergency.
The programme starts by defining what karma is.
The programme proposes that our climate emergency is caused by the accumulation of bad karma by the whole of humanity.
I then go on to explain with quotes how this teaching is important in many spiritual traditions.
It looks at the teachings on karma with illustrative quotes from Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Taoism.
The Programme starts with an explanation of how the balance of the climate has been disturbed to create the Climate Emergency.
There then follows a series of quotes and explanations of how Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Shamanism, Judaism and the Bahá’í Faith see the importance of balance.

The Programme opens with a description of how we alienate ourselves as a species from nature by living in urban landscapes and digital worlds. We are alienated from nature.
The advice from spiritual traditions is to respect nature and connect with nature.
I use quotes from Paganism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Bahais, Shamanism, Sikhism, Christianity and Taoism to fully illustrate the importance of this point.
